OK. Don't Wash, Rinse, Repeat This!

I'm having a really difficult time understanding how this is considered a good alternative (by the manufacturer, buyer, pet-owner?) to how we used to wash cats in the bathtub with a towel wrapped around their body, slowly exposing the part that is being washed, while maintaining control over those dangerous claws!
